Mom’s Easy Ground Beef BBQ

Looking for a simple, easy ground beef recipe? Try this Easy Ground Beef BBQ that is great for a quick meal or also an easy meal for a gathering. A little sweet and savory, this meaty meal is very versatile and liked by many.

It’s easy- This dish is quick and easy to make if you have everything you need on hand. I keep some extra cans of Chicken Gumbo Soup in my pantry so I am ready at a moment’s notice. As long as you have some ground beef, you should be good to go.

Great for parties- This is great for large gatherings and parties. You can whip it up last minute in a pinch or make it ahead of time and have it on warm in your crockpot, ready to go when everyone gets back from an event. It is a good dish that many like and doesn’t require a lot of adjustments for varying taste buds. It’s not a spicy dish, yet anyone can add an element of spice.

Freezing Ground Beef BBQ- This recipe is a great freezer meal, it keeps its flavor and texture after thawing and reheating. You can reheat it on the stove top, in the microwave, or in a crockpot.

A look at the ingredients:

1 1/2 lb ground beef

1 c ketchup

1 can chicken gumbo soup

3 TB brown sugar

1 tsp mustard

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp sea salt

  1. In a frying pan, or skillet over medium heat brown the ground beef.
  2. Drain off the extra fat and then add the sea salt, and onion powder.
  3. Mix in the canned chicken gumbo soup, ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard.
  4. Cook until everything is heated through and it begins to thicken.
  5. Serve with buns and a side or two of your choice.

Options:

You can top these with pickles if you want an added pop of flavor and crunch, or I’ve seen some add a handful of potato chips adds a nice salty crunch.

Another great topping you can add is a favorite cheese to change it up a bit. Some like to add some mac and cheese on top of their BBQ sandwich, or coleslaw.

Browning your buns before adding the BBQ is another great addition. You can either brown the buns in a toaster or in a frying pan with a little butter. You can also place the buns on a baking sheet and set your oven on the broil setting and broil them on the top rack until golden brown.

How to freeze – You can make this ahead of time and let it completly cool then place in a freezer friendly bag or air-tight container and freeze for up to 3 months.

To reheat, let the BBQ thaw before hand and then reheat in a skillet, microwave, or in a crockpot.

In the Crockpot- Once cooked, this recipe keeps well in a crockpot on warm until you are ready to eat. We did this once for a party we hosted. We had a Halloween party with a haunted trail walk. So I made up a double batch and kept it warm in the crockpot while we all went walking the trail. Everyone met back at my house and we had food ready to eat.
