This recipe has been handed down from my Great Grandma Thea. I have made these with my Grandma my Mom and now it’s my go to recipe for any holiday when it comes to making cut-out cookies for decorating. A fun activity to do with kids and a tradition I love to do at least once a year.

To start mix together room temprature butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.

Add in the flour, baking soda and salt and mix to combine.

The dough will be thick and stiff, if it becomes to difficult to mix with a spoon use your hands to work it all together.

I divide the dough in half and roll out 1/4th to 1/8th thick on a lightly floured surface. Rub flour on your rolling pin to keep the dough from sticking to it. The amount of cookies you get will be determined by the size of the cookie cutter you use.

Place on a non greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

Transfer onto a wire cooling rack and make sure the cookies are completely cool before decorating with frosting. These cookies keep well in the freezer and will keep up to 3 months. Simply set them out of the freezer ahead of time and bring to room temprature before decorating.
